Happy Christmas

Hi all, not had much chance for blogging, but will hopefully be back next year.  In the meantime, have a great Christmas and a peaceful New Year.  Signing off until mid January.

Take care,

Close Encounters

After a hard day watching the motor racing, start six (or there abouts) in the morning with build up to F1 Korean GP, then Touring Cars, for most of the afternoon, for some light relief I tuned in to watch Close Encounters of The Third Kind 6.20 p.m (GMT) Channel Five.  Now Radio Times billed this as "A re-edited edition features an extended ending with views inside the mother ship".  Perhaps I blinked in the wrong place, but where were the views inside the mother ship?  Anyone any ideas?

Congratulations to Matt Neal for winning the BTCC at Silverstone, it was a very exciting three races.

With sad news that British racing driver Dan Wheldon has died after a crash in the final Indy Car race at the Las Vegas circuit, our thoughts are with his family.

All for now.

Second place in silver cup

I'm pretty happy with getting second place in the silver cup on the game Need For Speed Nitro.  It has unlocked new cars and new races.  I just missed out on winning three races in a row, when I took a wrong turn and ended up trying to jump a missing section of road and crashed, leaving the other cars to overtake.  I managed to get back to fifth place but ran out of laps.

So some free tips for you racers out there.

Keep picking up badges to reduce the heat on you and get the cops to hound your nearest rival.

Look out for short cuts.  A damaged car has reduced or no Nitro boost, so pick up a wrench to repair as soon as possible.

Keep driving in real life safe and legal!

Need For Speed Nitro

I had a successful session on the above game on the Wii last night.  Managed to get a maximum five stars on many of the racing events.  I certainly improved on circuit races, eliminator, drift challenge and time attack.  The only thing I struggle with is the speed camera challenge, so any tips on this would be appreciated.

Finally got to grips with drifting.  Please note that street racing is illegal in Real Life!

Have been busy on Second Life, now have some land that I can do what I want with, it has only taken several years to find such reasonably priced land, with a tier payment that's manageable.  Will post a SLURL here at some point this week, so if you have an SL account you can pay us a visit.

All for now, take care.

Better late than never.

Well, it's finally here, my tips and tricks report, the following is just a sample of the full report.

If you have not yet got one, then the purchase of a Turbo or Titan Peeler. http://www.asseenontvvideo.com/511654/Titan-Peeler.html is a good and worth while investment.

We'll start off with carrots.

You'll need some newspaper (Sunday Telegraph is a good choice) several sheets of newspaper or if no newspaper then some supermarket plastic shopping bags will do.

Notice the set up. I have arranged the Titan Peeler on the chopping board, the peelings of the carrots already done to the right of the board and the carrots to be done on the empty bag.

I start by topping and tailing the carrots, using a knife. Then I'll peel four carrots (This is just my choice, as I like small numbers). Then using a knife I'll chop two carrots together (This is entirely possible with a suitable knife).

I then empty the carrots into a colander, rinse and repeat until all the carrots in the bag are peeled and chopped. Once they are all done empty the carrots into the pan and cover with water.

If you'd like the full report, then you can purchase it for the grand total of ninety nine pence from the Lulu button on this blog.

Good days racing BTCC

I like the coverage on ITV4 of the BTCC championship http://www.btcc.net/html/home.php Race three was exciting.  During the last laps, Gordon Shedden with a damaged front wing was given a black/orange flag to come into the pit lane to have the damage removed.  The second race winner promptly swiped a plastic barrier removing the offending article.   I learn from the results he was disqualified from the standings in race three!

Exciting German Grand Prix

Well done to Lewis Hamilton for winning the German Grand Prix.  I thought it was a very exciting race.  Shame for Jenson Button again, hopefully his luck will improve.  Very Mansell and Senna like when Webber picked up Alonso - I was waiting for either Martin Brundle or David Coulthard to mention that comparison, when sure enough DC did so.  We could have a penalty in the next race for those two, or simply a hefty fine!

Am glad the space shuttle is safely back on Earth albeit for the final time.  Am reading How To Live On Mars by Robert Zubrin How to Live on Mars: A Trusty Guidebook to Surviving and Thriving on the Red Planet

Am starting a poll on this, so will be interesting to see your votes.

H G Wells War Of The Worlds

And in twenty cycles I will after the dishwasher has cooled down be emptying that.

Don't you just love chores! :)

Good British GP.

I was really pleased with the British Grand Prix yesterday.  Some exciting overtaking moves, not least Jenson on Massa, then Hamilton on Massa during the last lap.

While it was disappointing that a Ferrari won and there wasn't a British driver on the podium it was an enjoyable race to watch.  http://www.formula1.com/ please click the link for more GP news.

Now, I have a bit of a dilemma, whether to put a wireless card in this computer so I can move it into my study.  I'm not so sure how secure wireless is, but it would save unplugging the telephone cable every time someone else wishes to use their computer.

Well, I'll keep you posted, all for today, back soon :)

Space shuttle Atlantis.

I missed the final shuttle launch by two minutes as I couldn't find the BBC News channel on the Sky system.  So, here is a link to Nasa's own web site if like me you missed it.  http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/shuttle/main/index.html

One wonders what next for America and the space programme.

Things not working

It's been a morning of things not working properly and hence when that happens things generally get called "Useless dog" or words to that effect. I'll not bore you to tears with every detail but it's one of those days where you feel you ought to have stayed in bed and it's not even a Sunday.

About the only thing that has worked without failing on me is Second Life and I have managed to get a classified advert published for our new venture on the simulation or virtual world.

Must edit some more photo's tomorrow and put them on.  That's about it for today.  Except I was looking at box DVD sets of old favourites like Macgyver and The Six Million Dollar Man on eBay, why so expensive - over seventy English pounds for a complete box set.

Wimbledon over

So, now that the tennis is finished I can get on with some more blogging.  I have been busy setting up a musician friend of mine an account on Second Life.  This is to try and promote some of his music and hopefully hold some live events later in the year.  We found some land which is a bit on the expensive side rent wise, but we seem bat the moment anyway to be able to do want we want.

I'll post more details in the week.

Some holiday snaps

Well, I'm back to the United Kingdom after a good break, so thought I would share with you some photo's I took.

Interesting wild life, in the above photo.  The picture of the Chapel was taken at a lovely pick nick spot.  More photo's to follow.

I have been staying at my parents remote holiday retreat in mainland Greece.  The journey out went very smoothly, but on the way back having paid for "speedy boarding" with Easy Jet having just got on the plane we had to disembark because of a security threat at Athens airport.  So we were kept waiting for about forty five minutes, which wasn't too bad really.

I missed both the Monaco and Canadian Grand Prix, but managed to see the latter matches of the French tennis matches, learning new Greek words like forehand, backhand and out!

Quick posting

A quick posting today with lots to do.  The night sky for May 2011:- http://www.jb.man.ac.uk/astronomy/nightsky/

http://www.formula1.com/  I really like the layout for this site.

Advanced notice - I shall be away on holiday for four weeks from next Tuesday.  It is unlikely there will be any postings during that time, unless I can get to an internet cafe somewhere :)

Am still having problems with my Dell Dimension desktop PC.  I had Windows XP loaded and booting fine at ten to twelve on Saturday evening.  Then I managed to set up a network using a BT Home Hub - quite chuffed really, then the automatic updates started and we crashed trying to install service pack 2 which is needed to upgrade to Vista.  Now as I type the machine is format the hard drive again, as it went trhouh that many restarts I figured it best to start again and I hadn't put anything apart from a word processor (The excellent Open Office) on it.  So we wait with fingers crossed.

Tomorrow I'll put some photo's of our blosom tree that until recent winds was doing quite nicely.

Have a great Tuesday.

Trouble with PC

For those of you who stop by this blog on a regular basis, thank you.  Thanks also to those who are following this blog.  I have been having some PC problems of late.  Namely my Dell Dimension desktop hard drive refuses to boot internally.  I suspect it's been on the way out for sometime.  Fortunately, having built a PC for my father I am able to blog and do other computer stuff using that one.

The main problem has been getting hold of a replacement hard drive for the Dell.  Easy, you may think, but no, nothing in life is easy!  Having removed the Dell's covers to get at and remove the existing hard drive I then go on eBay and find a reasonably priced replacement 250 GB drive - great, the seller assures me that it will fit inside the Dell.  Hooray, much excitement and anticipation awaiting it's arrival.  As per usual I'm left feeling flat as the Dell's hard drive requires SATA connections and the replacement drive is IDE - not a good start as I was planning to have two drives with two different operating systems on.  One that I could just use for internet purposes only.

After searching Google I found the Dimensions operating manual and also found that additional cables from Dell would cost GBP15.00.  Doing a web search I found a natty little device which converts SATA and IDE to USB.  Brilliant!  However, there is a catch, you cannot boot from a USB drive (or at least I do not know how to).  But thankfully the data on the existing Dell drive is safe, which is one good thing.

To cut a long story short, I found yet again on eBay a SATA drive for just under twenty pounds including shipping, which I'm waiting for at the moment.  Delayed due to the holiday weekend.

As for the IDE drive, well that's now in another desktop and running okay.  Words of wisdom - never think upgrading a PC is going to be an easy task!

Unfortunately my Second Life project has been put on the back burner, hopefully all will be sorted next week, as we have not had any post at all for two days.

Crystal Skulls

One of the most interesting books I read was The Mystery Of The Crystal Skulls (Chris Morton and Ceri Louise Thomas).  I stumbled upon the subject through researching Atlantis over a number of years.

It's a fascinating subject, I never got round to seeing the one in the British Museum, but I still enjoy reading about them.  I was intrigued by the title of the fourth Indiana Jones Movie - Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.  The somewhat predictable ending was a little disappointing but good old Indiana Jones fun along the way.

More postings over the weekend, I tell you about my computer woes soon.............................

Tuesday 3 May 2011

Well done John Higgins

A great snooker final yesterday http://www.worldsnooker.com/page/Home/0,,13165,00.html John Higgins beat Judd Trump 18 - 15 in an exciting match.

Good way to finish off a holiday weekend.......................

It's good to be back.

It's nice to be back after the holiday weekend, where someone got married!  I avoided the Royal Wedding as much as possible although it was on in the house.  At least it went smoothly and was well organised with nothing apart from a hangover on the Saturday morning to complain about.  Whilst there were some arrests, from the little I saw of it - it made you feel proud to be British.

Yesterday, I managed to catch up with some television programmes that I had recorded on Sky Plus.  One of which was a UFO Files documentary which had been on History Channel.  It was about the Rendlesham Forest UFO incident.

More thoughts

Something puzzles me about celebrities appearing on chat shows.  They always seem so upbeat and positive about things.  A nice smile and a warm hand shake and the interview starts in earnest.
“So, how’s the tour been?” asks one presenter
“Absolutely amazing, you know, wonderful, great to be on the road and seeing the fans again”.

Of course a star is never going to complain or grumble, there’s the appearance fee, plus album and song royalties to rake in - even unsold tickets to sell.

And yet, you never have a complaining star on a chat show:
“Well, you know, I hate living in hotels, living out of a suit case” sigh and more you knows “The food is terrible, the endless hand shakes are giving me RSI” exhale “I wake in the middle of the night seeing flash builds from the camera’s - HELP ME IT’S TERRIBLE!”.

Bemused looks from each presenter.

The Bad Tempered Prima Donna has arrived!!

One of the most infuriating television adverts has to be the Seriously Strong spreadable cheese advert.  I mean quite honestly what is the point in answering the phone when you are in the middle of enjoying something only for the person on the other end of the line to be saying

What's the point, why not just leave the answer phone on or let it go to voice mail.

Posting from Day Of the Dogs

[This story is Copyright Lancaster 2010, no part of this work may be reproduced in any format, without prior written permission from the author.   lancaster999@hotmail.com]
A short extract from my story Day of the Dogs..................................
Skill finding and tagging the humans around the globe who would be moved to the various colonies.
Humans were set to task on recycling all known military and non military weapons. This task took
four years, then those with non dog related skills were transported by The Dog Transport
Corporation to their colonies where they learned dog related skills including language translation.

A certain female Dog Gadget show presenter, was the most popular viewing for most canines world
wide. During a Dog Gadget show presentation she had forgotten to fasten a strap in the correct way
whilst attaching a Dog Bog to a cocker spaniel. The unfortunate canine had then had an urgent call
of nature all over her. The presenter had a fit of hysterics and a multitude of swear words had to be
barked out. It was the hottest viewed video on Dog Tube, which was so overloaded with nearly a
billion hits, the site actually went down for several hours.

Alas, not all canines joined the revolution. A safe haven for humans was the outback
region of Australia. The Dogs Underground Movement Head Quarters were located at Ayres Rock.
The underground pop group Dog Eared released a hit song in the fourth year of what
humans called dogmanisation, the song called “Missing Youmans” was number one for twenty four
weeks breaking the Bryan Adams record for “Everything I Do” which was on the top spot for
seventeen weeks.

Been a while.

I've not posted anything on this blog for ages.  Now that the Christmas hassle is behind us things should get back to normal.

"In times of stress and doubt - if in doubt reach for the whiskey and the snout or stout!"

It occurred to me after watching Star Trek VI for about the fourth time when it was on over the festive season that Captain James T Kirk never actually said “Please beam me up Scotty!” it was always just “Beam me up Scotty - we’re in the s**t!” or “We’re surrounded by Klingons Scotty! Help!”

“Right you are Captain” - “Bossy so and so that one is!”

At least Picard had a better order in The Next Generation “Energise!” that wouldn’t have got his staff running to the Human Resources department with complaints.

I'm going to be blogging about various topics including gaming seeing as I purchased a Nintendo Wii for Christmas.  It is my intention to build this into a popular blog with plenty of followers.
